Autumn in North Wales

Autumn in North Wales has plenty to offer its visitors, from relaxing weekends for food-lovers; outdoor adventures along the coastal path and forest trails for enterprising ramblers; expeditions to ancient monuments for enthusiastic amateur historians.

Anglesey never ceases to be amazing. There is history and beauty wherever you turn. The golden tones of autumn bring another dimension to the woodlands, heaths, coastal paths and forest trails.

With the arrival of autumn comes a very special time for one of our favourite animals – the seal! Seal pups are born in autumn, and they will be in various locations across the island. Puffin Island – off Anglesey – is an ideal habitat for Grey Seals, with its rocky coastline and secluded location. On other parts of Anglesey Grey Seal mothers look for secluded rocky beaches to give birth to their pups.

Dolphins and Harbour Porpoises are also commonly seen around the North Coast of Anglesey. Menai Strait wildlife and woodland walk

Explore the walled woodland that is Glan Faenol, Pentir and perhaps catch a glimpse of a seal in the Menai Strait. This walk features varied native woodland and ancient parkland with views of Plas Newydd House and Garden and the hills of Snowdonia. Penrhyn Castle

This enormous 19th-century neo-Norman castle in Llandegai, Bangor, sits between Snowdonia and the Menai Strait and has a host of wonderful sights to enjoy on a walk. Stroll through the bog garden or wonder around the tranquil terrace – this amazing setting becomes even more majestic when set against a red and orange wash of autumn leaves. We have always loved Penrhyn Castle, the grounds offer plenty of space for adults and children alike. The walled garden is lovely for a picnic, or to watch the tad poles in the ponds, the wonderful colours of the trees are breathtaking and there are some fantastic views from all around the grounds. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/penrhyn-castle
