Six famous Anglesey beaches have gained prestigious Blue Flag awards for 2015 to rank them among the world’s best for water quality and to ensure that they are among the best family-friendly beaches in Britain.

The blue flag award is issued by the Foundation for Environmental Education which rates beaches on safety, facilities and environmental management as well as water quality. Beaches are assessed on 33 criteria on an annual basis to ensure that they maintain their standard from year to year. This prestigious international award is managed in Wales by the environmental charity Keep Wales Tidy and shows that Welsh beaches are “amongst the world’s best” according to the Welsh Natural Resources Minister Carl Sargeant.

Benllech, Church Bay, Llanddona, Porth Dafarch, Llanddwyn and Trearddur Bay have achieved blue flag status on Anglesey this year. Ben Moore is a superb barn conversion close by the sea, near picturesque Penmon Point, whilst Dinmor is an attractive chalet in tranquil surroundings close to Llanddona.

Porth Dafarch is on Holy Island off the west coast of Anglesey just outside Holyhead. It is renowned for its craggy cliffs and watersports activities such as kayaking and coasteering. Just to the south is Trearddur Bay, a small seaside town, with its secluded coves and beaches. The Old Abbey is just fifty metres from the beach with the choice of Little House and The Annexe.

The road down to Llanddwyn Beach (Traeth Llanddwyn) from Newborough village through the forest of Corsican pines leads to a stunning beach steeped in the magic and mystery of Llanddwyn Island.
