Anglesey, home to one of the most stunning coastlines in the world and with 125 miles of scenic paths around the island…
Read More1981, the County Council of the Isle of Anglesey acquired the studio collection of Charles Tunnicliffe from an auction who died in 1979. The artist had lived in Malltraeth, Anglesey, since he moved from his native Cheshire in 1947. It was through the efforts of the Local Authority, together with the determination of the devotees of its work, that this collection was purchased in its entirety and safeguarded.
As well as the collection of Charles Tunnicliffe, there are also important collections of works by Sir Kyffin Williams and the Sisters of Massey, as well as well-known Welsh artists such as Claudia Williams, Gwilym Pritchard and Peter Prendergast. In 2008, Oriel Môn expanded, with the addition of the Oriel Kyffin Williams Gallery, which can display items from national collections. The gallery was financed by selling a limited-edition print run based on drawings by Kyffin Williams, funding from its governing body-the Isle of Anglesey County Council, donations by the public through the Kyffin Williams Trust and the Arts Council of Wales.
From the sculpted face of the Hendy Head, the homely textiles of the 19th century to the dramatic and atmospheric paintings of Kyffin Williams, join us to sample the creativity of Anglesey residents over 2,000 years. Their collections can be viewed at https://www.orielmon.org/en-gb/collections
