Okay, I admit it. Sometimes it rains in North Wales. Luckily there are plenty of things to do in North Wales when it’s raining, at a great range of indoor attractions in North Wales and on Anglesey. Here’s some great ideas for when it rains.

Rain or shine, you can climb at the Beacon Climbing Centre, Caernarfon!

Designed, built and used by people that are passionate about climbing, Beacon is the largest indoor climbing centre in North Wales. Whether you’re five or over eighty the climbing is designed to cater for all levels, from first experience to elite performance. Daredevils can attempt a wall which is 17 metres high, while everyone else can try one of the colour-coded climbs to suit their ability.  Look out for the kaleidoscopic CrazyClimb for family scalers.  Keep in shape, distract yourself from the pressures of everyday life and most importantly, have an awesome time doing it! For the ultimate underground adventure, why not abseil, zip line, scramble, traverse, boat and climb around the abandoned mines of Snowdonia with Go Below. You’ll encounter deep blue lakes, lofty caverns and forgotten mining machinery as you go. It’s adrenaline pumping, heart thumping, pulse jumping fun, guided by the most experienced and qualified instructors in the country!

Bounce Below, in Blaenau Ffestiniog, has to be one of the most unusual rainy day activities North Wales has to offer! Three trampolines, one above the other, are suspended in an underground cavern the size of a cathedral. It’s all connected by slides and ladders and lit by psychedelic multi-coloured lights, so you can jump, slide and climb your way through the deep dark course. Or try nearby Zip World Caverns where five huge underground slate caverns have been turned into a unique adventure playground. They house zip lines, rope bridges, balance beams and tunnels, with plenty of breath-taking stretches and one-of-a-kind views. A 3-hour adventure for children aged 10 years upwards.

On Anglesey, and looking for things to do when it’s raining, then a visit to the Anglesey Sea Zoo is a must! From quirky lumpsuckers, rare British long-snouted seahorses, and mesmerising Moon Jellyfish, Anglesey Sea Zoo is full of aquatic wildlife. With over 40 tanks you’ll find fascinating creatures from around the coast of the UK.  Conservation is increasingly the most important aspect of the work of any aquarium. Anglesey Sea Zoo has developed and is running captive breeding, release, conservation and education programmes. The outside facilities include a huge Bouncy Castle and slide, the Pirate’s Playground, Captain Jake’s Crazy Golf, Gator Swamp Boats and the Cannon Blaster. If you’ve got kids who are massively excited by geology and dinosaurs then Stone Science, Bryn Eglwys, Llanddyfnan, Pentraeth on Anglesey is the place to take them. The staff are very welcoming and extremely knowledgeable. This is a hidden gem of a place to visit on Anglesey, packed with fascinating fossils, gemstones, ancient relics. The museum mixes amazing specimens in display cabinets, some you can touch and thematic areas that have interpretation material that take you in greater depth into different topics: the evolution and biogeography of humans, stone age humans, the formation of minerals. This is a unique place not like your typical museum which is what makes it so good.
